We've hit that point in the year in which there are holidays around every turn. This makes for both exciting and fun times, but it also makes for some controversy and judgy times, too. You all know what I'm talking about. You post a photo of your elf on a shelf and a friend comments about how much they hate the whole concept. You post a picture of your little one opening their Hanuka gift and someone respond with a rant about how kids these days are spoiled. You say one thing about Black Friday at work and find yourself hiding under your desk from the angry mob blaming you for stores being open on Thanksgiving! So what if we just didn't? What if we put aside all of the negative judgments and social media comments?
I know. It's a crazy thought and here's another. Holidays mean something a little different to all of us depending on our own experiences, our maturity level, morals and values. That's right. I said it. And because of that, we find ourselves celebrating differently, too. Crazy. I know. This means that we may not agree with the way others decide to celebrate, or maybe even WHAT they decide to celebrate, but you never know. If you listen to their stories, read their posts; glance at their pictures, you may learn something. You may come up with a good idea to do with your family!
So this year, let's set aside the judgement and the criticisms and instead accept other's methods of celebration. Learn from them and, practice the old saying because sometimes it really is best to just not say anything at all if you don't have something nice to say.
