Recently I shared with you some stories we wrote when our elf on the shelf made us write stories from writing prompts he left us. We had so much fun, I'm glad Eli decided to do this! This is the second of the two stories I wrote. The reindeer is based off of another character I had written in a different project I had toyed with and my husband loved him so I decided to make him into a reindeer! Hope you enjoy, too!
But did you know, the least famous reindeer of all?
Prompt: You know about the most famous of reindeer, but do you know that there's one that no one has ever heard of before.
You know about the most famous of reindeer, but did you know that there's one that no one has ever heard of before? Elis the reindeer never really fit in but, unlike Rudolph, he didn't have a cool nose to win people over. All Elis had was his brain.
Elis was born to his parents, Rainey and Chris about twenty or so years ago, or so the legend says. Elis was always a little odd. His front teeth were a little bigger then average and, shortly before he began school, he learned that he required eye glasses. Being the smart deer he was, he chose a slightly thicker frame then usually chosen and black, to match his pocket protector.
Of course, young reindeer don't always know how to react to people who are different then them, as Elis was, so Elis became accustomed to being picked on, but he didn't let that stop him.
Elis was proud of his accomplishments and by the time he graduated, his walls were not filled with sports trophies, but with articles about suspicious happenings around the world. His favorites were crop circles, particularly the one found in Virginia about fifteen years ago, beautifully crafted in the shape of a sleigh with nine reindeer pulling it. Elis liked to pretend that he was the ninth reindeer depicted and the crop circle. His shelves were populated with certificates of academic achievements, trophies from math competitions and, of course, his collection of calculators.
Elis loved calculators! He had them in every color imaginable and in every size. He had some that were even older then he was! His room was located in the back of his parent's cave, right outside of North Pole City in the North Pole, behind the home of the beloved elf by the name of Eli.
Now, most reindeer wanted to fly with Santa and help him deliver all of the gifts to all of the good children around the world. Elis, however had other ideas. While he wanted to fly with Santa, what he wanted more then anything was to provide every child in the entire world with...calculators!
He dreamt of filling a sack full of calculators and making his way with Santa into the homes of everyone with Santa, a calculator of their favorite colors in his mouth to drop into the stockings above the fire place. But, sadly, his dream was not shared by others. In fact, his dream was often mocked. His peers laughed at him.His parents encouraged him to close his calculator manufacturing business and focus on a more lucrative profession, but Elis refused. He spent his time designing new and exciting calculators and then making his way door to door, selling his creations. His best customers were Mr. and Mrs. Clause themselves and their head elf.
Now, Elis, to this day, is not the most popular of reindeers. He still is not married and is not a member of Santa's yearly team but, every once in a while, when the world is in huge mathematical distress, Santa will invite Elis to spread his love of math and calculators around the world.
So, this Christmas, and for all of the Christmasses that are to follow, should you look up into the sky and see the shadow of Santa with his reindeer and you notice that there is one more then usual, remember this story and wave an etra wave for Elis. And, should you ever find a calculator in your stocking, think of Elis and all of the work he put into creating that calculator just for you because, as you now know, Elis is the one and only calculator creater in the North Pole...and will probably always be.
